Virtual piano questions, answered

Why is there no sound until I tap a key?
Browsers block audio until you interact with the page (a privacy/anti-autoplay rule). Tap any key once and sound works from then on.
What does the sustain toggle do?
Sustain makes each note ring out longer after you release the key, like holding a piano’s damper pedal down. Turn it on for flowing, connected melodies.
Can I play chords?
Yes. Touchscreens support multi-touch chords, and on desktop you can hold several keyboard keys at once. Each note gets its own voice, so chords sound clean.
How do I change octaves?
Use the − and + buttons above the keyboard to shift the 2-octave window. The label shows the current range, from C3–B4 up to C5–B6.
Where is my recording saved?
Your recording lives only in this page’s memory — it is never uploaded anywhere. It disappears when you leave or refresh the page, so play it back before you go.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The keyboard shrinks to fit small screens and responds to taps. Turn your phone sideways for the roomiest keys.
Which computer keys play the piano?
Bottom octave (white keys A S D F G H J, black keys W E T Y U) and top octave (white keys K L ; ‘, black keys O P [). The map is listed under the keyboard.
