How to use the Online Voice Recorder

  1. 1Allow microphone access

Click the red record button and choose “Allow” when your browser asks for the microphone. Your audio stays on your device — nothing streams anywhere.

  2. 2Record and watch the levels

The red button starts recording and the live waveform shows your mic input in real time, so you can spot a dead mic or distortion instantly.

  3. 3Pause and resume anytime

Need a moment mid-take? Pause, collect your thoughts, then resume — everything lands in one clean recording.

  4. 4Preview and download as WAV

Hit Stop to hear an instant preview, then download an uncompressed WAV file that opens in any audio editor.

Features

Live microphone level meter

A real-time waveform shows your voice as you speak, so you always know the mic is working and your levels are healthy.

Pause and resume recording

Take breaks without starting over. Paused time is excluded from the timer, and the final file is one seamless take.

Uncompressed WAV download

Your recording is converted to a standard 16-bit PCM WAV file right in the browser — ready for Audacity, Premiere, GarageBand, or anything else.

Instant playback preview

Listen to the full take immediately after stopping, before you download — no surprises, no re-records.

Private by design

Capture, playback, and format conversion all happen locally. There is no server, no upload, and nothing is stored.

Works on desktop and mobile

Record on your laptop, tablet, or phone in any modern browser — no app to install, no plugins needed.

Frequently asked questions

Where do my recordings go?
Nowhere. Recording, playback, and WAV conversion all happen locally in your browser. There is no server involved, your voice is never uploaded, and nothing is saved unless you choose to download the file.
What format is the download?
A standard uncompressed WAV file (16-bit PCM) that opens in any audio software — Audacity, Adobe Audition, Premiere Pro, GarageBand, and more. The sample rate matches your device, typically 48 kHz.
Why does the browser ask for microphone permission?
Browsers require your explicit permission before any website can use the microphone. Click “Allow” once and you are recording. You can revoke access at any time in your browser’s site settings.
The waveform is flat or it records silence. What is wrong?
Three things to check: first, make sure you clicked “Allow” on the permission prompt. Second, check your operating system’s sound settings to confirm the right microphone is selected and not muted. Third, some laptops have a physical mic mute key — make sure it is off.
How long can I record?
There is no built-in time limit. Recordings are held in memory, and WAV files run about 10 MB per minute, so very long sessions use more RAM — for voice notes, interviews, and podcast takes you will be fine.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in any modern mobile browser. On iPhone, use Safari 14.1 or later and grant microphone permission when prompted.
Can I trim or edit my recording here?
This tool focuses on clean capture and export. To cut your recording down afterward, use our Audio Trimmer to trim it to the exact second.
