Frequently asked questions

What are meta tags?
Meta tags are snippets of HTML in a page’s <head> section that describe the page to search engines and social networks. The title tag and meta description control how your page appears in Google results; Open Graph and Twitter Card tags control the preview card when your link is shared on social media.
How long should my title tag be?
Keep it around 50–60 characters. Google typically displays the first 600 pixels of a title — anything longer gets cut off with an ellipsis. This generator’s counter warns you the moment you cross 60 characters.
How long should my meta description be?
Aim for 150–155 characters. Google usually shows about 155–160 characters of a description on desktop. Shorter is fine; longer usually gets truncated. The counter above flags anything over 155.
Do meta keywords still matter for Google?
No — Google has ignored the keywords meta tag for ranking since 2009. This generator still includes it because some smaller search engines and internal site search tools read it, but it will not help or hurt your Google rankings.
What are Open Graph tags?
Open Graph (og:) tags, created by Facebook, define the title, description, and image shown when your page is shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and most other platforms. Without them, social sites guess — and usually guess badly.
What is a Twitter Card?
A Twitter Card is the rich preview attached to links shared on X (Twitter). The “summary_large_image” card shows a big banner image; the “summary” card shows a small square thumbnail. This generator lets you pick either one.
Will this tool change my website automatically?
No. It only generates the HTML for you. Copy the tags and paste them inside the <head> of your page yourself (or hand them to your developer). Nothing on your site changes until you add them.
Is this meta tag generator really free?
Yes — free, unlimited, no signup. Everything runs locally in your browser, so there is nothing to pay for and nothing to sign up for.
