Mobile limit: titles truncate around 580 px on phones. Descriptions may be shortened by Google regardless of length.

Best-practice length guide

SEO title: 50–60 characters

Stay under 600 px on desktop so Google shows the full title. Front-load your primary keyword in the first 40 characters.

Meta description: 150–160 characters

Stay under about 1,000 px. Write it as ad copy: benefit first, then a call to action.

URL slug: short and readable

Use lowercase words separated by hyphens, 3–5 words. Avoid dates, IDs, and stop words like “the” or “and”.

Unique on every page

Never reuse the same title or description twice. Duplicates confuse Google and split your click-through rate.

100% private

How to use the SERP Snippet Preview Tool

  1. 1Enter your page URL

Paste the full URL. The preview shows it the way Google does: domain on the first line, slug as a breadcrumb below.

  2. 2Type your SEO title

Watch the desktop and mobile mockups update live. The pixel counter tells you exactly how wide your title renders.

  3. 3Write your meta description

The preview truncates it with … at the same point Google would, so you can rewrite before publishing.

  4. 4Fix every red badge

Green means your snippet fits; red means Google will cut it off. Shorten the text until all three badges turn green.

Overlong text is cut with … exactly where Google would cut it, so there are no surprises after publishing.

Character and pixel counters

Every field shows live character counts plus measured pixel width against Google’s real limits.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Google cut off my title with …?
Google truncates titles by pixel width, not character count. On desktop a title wider than about 600 px gets cut, no matter how many characters it has. Wide letters like W take more space than narrow ones like i, which is why this tool measures real pixels instead of counting characters.
What is the ideal SEO title length?
Aim for 50–60 characters, which usually stays under the 600 px desktop limit. Put your primary keyword in the first 40 characters so it is visible even if Google rewrites the ending.
What is the ideal meta description length?
Aim for 150–160 characters, roughly 920–1,000 px. Google sometimes shows longer snippets, but anything past 1,000 px is very likely to be truncated on desktop.
Does this tool guarantee how Google will display my page?
No tool can. Google rewrites more than half of all titles and descriptions, pulling text from the page when it thinks it matches the query better. This preview shows your snippet exactly as you wrote it, which is the version Google starts from.
Why is the mobile preview stricter than desktop?
Phone screens are narrower, so mobile titles start truncating around 580 px. A title that fits perfectly on desktop can lose its last words on mobile, where most search traffic comes from.
Does the meta description affect rankings?
Not directly. Google has confirmed the meta description is not a ranking factor, but it is your free ad copy in the results. A compelling description raises click-through rate, which brings more traffic at the same ranking.
How is this different from the Meta Tag Generator?
The Meta Tag Generator writes the actual HTML title and meta tags for you to paste into your page. This tool does the opposite job: it takes finished tags and shows you exactly how Google will render them in search results.
