What is an XML sitemap?
An XML sitemap is a file (usually sitemap.xml at your site root) that lists your important pages so search engines can find and crawl them efficiently. It doesn’t guarantee rankings, but it helps new or updated pages get discovered faster.
Why was one of my URLs flagged as invalid?
Every URL must start with http:// or https:// and be a complete address (no relative paths like /about/). Fix the line or remove it and the warning clears.
What should I set priority to?
Priority is a 0.0–1.0 hint about a page’s relative importance on your own site. Your homepage is often 1.0, key landing pages 0.8, regular articles 0.5–0.6. Google treats it as a mild hint, not a ranking factor.
Does changefreq make Google crawl me more often?
Not directly — it’s a hint about how often a page changes. Google decides crawl frequency itself based on its own signals, but accurate hints help it schedule crawls sensibly.
Where do I upload sitemap.xml?
Place it at your domain root (https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml), then submit the URL in Google Search Console under Sitemaps. You can also reference it from your robots.txt file.
Is there a size limit?
A single sitemap can hold up to 50,000 URLs or 50 MB uncompressed. If you outgrow that, split URLs into multiple sitemaps and list them in a sitemap index file.
Is my URL list private?
