How to use the barcode generator

  1. 1
Type your data and pick a symbology

Enter the text or digits, then choose Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 39 or ITF-14. The hint under the field tells you exactly what each format accepts.

  2. 2
    Customize the look

Adjust bar width in pixels, bar height, the quiet zone around the code, and the bar and background colors to match your label or packaging.

  3. 3
    Check the live preview

The barcode rebuilds instantly as you type. Invalid input shows a clear error message instead of a broken barcode.

  4. 4
    Download the PNG

Save the barcode as a PNG image and drop it into your label, flyer, packaging or product listing. Test-scan it with your phone before printing a batch.

Features

Five real symbologies

Code 128-B with proper checksum, EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 39 with start and stop characters, and ITF-14 with bearer bars — all encoded to the official specifications.

Automatic check digits

Enter 12 digits for EAN-13, 11 for UPC-A or 13 for ITF-14 and the correct GS1 check digit is calculated and added for you.

Clear validation messages

Wrong digit count, lowercase issues or illegal characters produce a plain-English error so you always know what to fix.

Custom sizes and colors

Control module width, bar height, quiet zone and both colors — plus an optional human-readable text line under the bars.

Live preview

The canvas redraws on every keystroke, so what you see is exactly what the PNG download contains.

Generated locally

Everything happens on your device. Your SKUs, product codes and inventory data never leave your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Are the barcodes really free?
Yes. You can generate and download unlimited barcodes with no signup, no watermarks and no limits.
Will these barcodes actually scan?
Yes. Each symbology is encoded to its official specification — Code 128 includes the modulo-103 checksum, EAN-13 and UPC-A get valid GS1 check digits, Code 39 is wrapped in start and stop characters, and ITF-14 includes bearer bars. Always test-scan with your phone or scanner before printing a large batch.
What is a check digit, and why is it added for me?
A check digit is a final digit calculated from the other digits using the GS1 modulo-10 formula. Scanners use it to catch misprints. Enter the payload digits (12 for EAN-13, 11 for UPC-A, 13 for ITF-14) and the tool computes and appends the correct check digit automatically.
Which symbology should I choose?
Use Code 128 for internal SKUs, inventory and shipping labels — it handles any text. Use EAN-13 for retail products sold outside North America and UPC-A for US retail. Code 39 is common on simple industrial labels, and ITF-14 is the GS1 standard printed on shipping cartons and cases.
Can I put these barcodes on products I sell in stores?
The barcodes will scan, but real retail products need a genuine GTIN with a GS1 company prefix registered to your business. A random 12-digit number will scan without errors, yet it will not be registered to your product in any retail database. Get your numbers from GS1 US if you are selling at retail.
What size should I print the barcode?
Keep the bars sharp — print at 100% scale, never stretch the image, and leave the quiet zone (blank space) on both sides untouched. If a scan fails, increase the bar width setting and regenerate.
Is my data private?
Completely. Barcodes are generated locally in your browser, so your product codes and SKUs are never uploaded anywhere.
