Features

Numbers up to 999 trillion

Spells everything from zero to nine hundred ninety-nine trillion — far beyond what most converters handle.

Currency mode for checks and invoices

Writes US dollar amounts the way banks expect: “one thousand two hundred thirty-four dollars and fifty-six cents”.

Bank-safe cent rounding

Rounding is done on the digits themselves, so amounts like $2.675 correctly become sixty-eight cents — never a floating-point surprise.

Decimals, negatives, and zero

Plain mode reads decimals digit by digit (“point five six”), and negative numbers get a clean “negative” prefix.

One-click copy

Copy the spelled-out amount straight to your clipboard and drop it into any document or form.

Private and mobile-friendly

Runs 100% in your browser with no uploads. Fully responsive, so it works on your phone, tablet, or desktop.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write a check amount in words?
Select Currency (USD), type the amount — for example 1234.56 — and the tool writes it the standard way: “one thousand two hundred thirty-four dollars and fifty-six cents”. That is exactly the format US banks expect on the written line of a check.
What is the largest number it can convert?
999,999,999,999,999 — nine hundred ninety-nine trillion. Anything larger shows a friendly message instead of a wrong answer.
Does it handle decimal numbers?
Yes. In Plain words mode, decimals are read digit by digit: 1234.56 becomes “one thousand two hundred thirty-four point five six”. In Currency mode, the decimal part is rounded to the nearest cent and written as cents.
Why do legal documents spell out numbers?
Spelled-out amounts are much harder to alter than digits, which is why contracts, checks, and legal filings require them. This tool gives you the correct wording in one click.
Does it work with negative numbers?
Yes. Negative numbers get a “negative” prefix, for example -42 becomes “negative forty-two” — in both plain and currency modes.
Is it free, and is my number uploaded anywhere?
Completely free with no signup and no limits. Conversion happens entirely in your browser, so your numbers never leave your device and are never stored.
