Frequently asked questions

Is the video thumbnail extractor free?
Yes. It is completely free with no signup, no watermarks, and no limits on how many frames you capture.
Are my videos uploaded anywhere?
No. Your video is loaded and processed entirely inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or sent to any server.
Which video formats are supported?
Any video your browser can play: MP4, WebM, and MOV all work in modern browsers on desktop and mobile.
What resolution are the captured thumbnails?
Full native resolution. If your video is 1920×1080, each captured thumbnail is saved at 1920×1080.
Should I download PNG or JPG?
Choose PNG for maximum quality (larger file, great for editing). Choose JPG for smaller files that are perfect for web thumbnails and social posts — use the quality slider to balance size and sharpness.
How does “Capture frames at intervals” work?
It divides the video’s full duration into equal parts and captures one frame from each part. Set it to 5 on a 60-second video and you get frames at roughly 6, 18, 30, 42, and 54 seconds.
Why did a captured frame come out black?
This usually happens with DRM-protected or streaming videos, which browsers block from being read into a canvas. Ordinary video files you recorded or downloaded capture correctly.
Can I extract a thumbnail from a YouTube video?
Not directly from a YouTube link. Download the video file first (only if you have the rights to it), then load it into this tool.
