Plan your Black Friday in 4 steps

  1. 1Set your budget and goal

Enter the total amount you are willing to spend this Black Friday, plus a savings cushion you want to keep unspent.

  2. 2List every gift

Add each item with the current retail price and the discount you expect. Use last year's sale prices or advertised doorbuster percentages.

  3. 3Watch the running total

The planner converts every retail price to its sale price instantly and shows your total against your budget — green when under, red when over.

  4. 4Trim until it fits

Drop or swap items until the total sits under your budget with your savings cushion intact. Take the final list shopping with you.

Black Friday budget questions, answered

How do I estimate the discount for each item?
Use last year's Black Friday prices for the same product, the retailer's advertised doorbuster percentage, or price-tracking sites for the 30-day low. Big-box electronics usually run 20–40% off; small appliances 25–50%. When in doubt, use a conservative number — a planned 25% that becomes 35% is a happy surprise, the reverse is not.
Should sales tax count against my budget?
Yes. This planner works with pre-tax prices to keep the math simple, but add 6–10% to your planned total mentally if your state charges sales tax — or build tax into your budget up front by setting it slightly lower than your true ceiling.
What if my planned total is over budget?
The planner flags exactly how far over you are. Sort mentally by lowest savings and smallest "need" factor: cut the items with the weakest discounts first, swap big-ticket gifts for alternatives, or spread purchases across Cyber Monday paychecks instead of one weekend.
Does the planner handle items I buy for myself?
Absolutely — and it should. Add yourself as the recipient on any row. Most budgets blow up on self-purchases, so seeing them in the total is the whole point.
Can I plan for more than just Black Friday?
Yes. Nothing in the math is Black-Friday-specific — use the same list for Cyber Monday, Christmas, or any sale event. Pair it with our Christmas Budget Planner for December.
Is my gift list saved anywhere?
No. Everything stays in your browser tab and disappears when you close it — we never see or store your budget, gifts, or prices. That is also why there is no cloud sync: screenshot or print your final list before you shop.
