Unlimited draws for offices, classrooms, families, and friend groups — no paywall, no limits, no watermark.

How to use the Secret Santa Generator

  1. 1Paste your names

Type or paste one participant per line in the left box. You need at least 2 names; 5 or more makes the best draw.

  2. 2Add exclusions (optional)

On the right, add one “Name1, Name2” pair per line for couples or anyone who must not draw each other. Mutual mode covers both directions by default.

  3. 3Generate the draw

Hit Generate. The tool shuffles until it finds a valid assignment — nobody draws themselves and no excluded pair is matched.

  4. 4Reveal and share

Use “Reveal one at a time” so each person privately sees only their own match, or copy the full list to share with the organizer.

Why organizers love this draw

🔓 Truly private reveal mode

Pass the phone around: each person taps to see only their own match, so nobody accidentally spots someone else’s gift target.

👪 Couple and family exclusions

Spouses, siblings, or roommates can be blocked from drawing each other — one pair per line, mutual or one-way.

🎯 Guaranteed valid draws

The generator only accepts true derangements: nobody draws themselves, every person gives and receives exactly once.

⚠️ Impossible-draw detection

If your exclusions make a valid draw impossible, you get a clear explanation instead of an endless spinner.

🔄 Instant re-draws

Didn’t like the result? Regenerate in one tap for a brand-new random assignment — as many times as you want.

📱 Works on any device

Fully responsive and client-side. Run the office draw from your phone in the break room — no app needed.

Secret Santa questions, answered

Is this Secret Santa Generator really random?
Yes. It uses the browser’s cryptographically backed random number generator to shuffle the names, then verifies the result is a valid derangement — meaning no one is assigned to themselves — before showing it. Every valid assignment is equally likely.
Can two people be blocked from drawing each other?
Yes. Add one “Name1, Name2” line per pair in the exclusions box. With “Make exclusions mutual” checked (the default), neither person can draw the other — perfect for couples. Uncheck it for one-way exclusions, like when a manager should not draw their direct report.
What if my exclusions make a draw impossible?
The generator tries thousands of shuffles. If no valid assignment exists — for example, in a group of 3 where two people exclude each other — it stops and tells you plainly, suggesting you loosen an exclusion or add more people.
Are our names saved or sent anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser with plain JavaScript. Names are never uploaded to any server, stored in cookies, or shared. Closing the tab erases everything.
How does the one-at-a-time reveal work?
After generating, tap “Reveal one at a time.” The pairs are shuffled into a private order. Hand the device to the named person, they tap “Reveal match” to see only their gift recipient, then pass it on. Nobody sees anyone else’s match.
How many people can join one draw?
There is no hard limit — it handles 3 people or 300. For the best experience with reveal mode, groups of 5 to 50 work great.
Can I run the draw again if someone drops out?
Absolutely. Remove the name from the list and hit Generate again. Each draw is independent, so re-running is always safe.
