How to use the online screen recorder

  1. 1
Start and choose what to share

Click Start Recording. Your browser will ask whether to share your entire screen, one window, or just this tab — pick one and press Share.

  2. 2
    Add narration if you want

Tick the microphone checkbox before you start to record your voice alongside the screen — perfect for tutorials and demos.

  3. 3
    Pause, resume, then stop

Use Pause to skip dead air and Resume to continue — the timer keeps honest time. Press Stop (or the browser’s own Stop sharing button) to finish.

  4. 4
    Preview and download

Watch your recording right on the page, check the length and file size, then download it as a WebM (or MP4 in Safari) to keep or share.

Features

One-click capture

Record your full screen, a single app window, or one browser tab — the choice appears in the standard browser dialog.

Microphone audio toggle

Add live narration to your recording with one checkbox, or keep it silent for a clean screen-only capture.

Pause and resume

Skip mistakes and dead air mid-recording. The timer excludes paused time so the length you see is the length you get.

Live timer and preview

A blinking REC indicator, an honest elapsed-time counter, and a live preview of exactly what is being captured.

Best-quality encoding

The recorder automatically picks the best format your browser supports — VP9 WebM, VP8 WebM, or MP4 — at up to 30 frames per second.

Private by design

Recording happens with your browser’s built-in capture APIs. Your screen never leaves your device, and there is nothing to install.

Frequently asked questions

Is this screen recorder really free?
Yes. You can record as many videos as you like with no signup, no watermarks, and no time limits.
Where do my recordings go?
Nowhere but your device. The video is captured in your browser and offered as a download — it is never uploaded to any server, so it stays completely private.
Which browsers can use the screen recorder?
Chrome and Edge work best, and Firefox is supported too. Safari supports screen capture from version 13 and recording from 14.1. Always use the latest version of your browser for the best results.
Can it record system or tab audio?
The microphone toggle captures your voice for narration. Capturing the audio playing inside a tab or app is not included, because browsers handle that inconsistently — for voiceovers and tutorials, mic narration is the reliable route.
What format is the downloaded video?
Chrome, Edge, and Firefox download a WebM file (VP9 or VP8), which plays in every modern browser and most editors. Safari downloads an MP4 instead.
Is there a maximum recording length?
No limit is built in. Very long recordings use more memory while they capture, so for sessions over about 30 minutes consider recording in shorter parts.
Why does it need HTTPS?
Browsers only allow screen capture on secure pages, to protect you from malicious sites. This page is served over HTTPS, so capture works — the same tool would be blocked on a plain HTTP page.
