How to use the keyword density checker

  1. 1
    Paste your article text

Copy the body of your blog post, article or page into the text box. Plain text works best — strip out HTML tags, menus and sidebars first so they don't skew the counts.

  2. 2
    Set your options

Choose 1, 2 and 3-word phrases (or just one length), how many top keywords to show, and whether to ignore common stop words like "the" and "and".

  3. 3
    Click Check Density

Instantly see total words, unique words, reading time, and a sortable table of every keyword with its count and density percentage.

  4. 4
    Fix stuffing risks and export

If any keyword exceeds 3% density, the tool flags it so you can rewrite naturally. Export the full table to CSV for your SEO records.

Features

1, 2 and 3-word phrases

Analyze single keywords plus two and three-word phrases to catch the longer search terms your article actually ranks for.

Stuffing-risk flag

Any keyword appearing more than 3% of the time is flagged automatically, so you can rewrite before Google sees it as keyword stuffing.

Smart stop-word filtering

Common filler words (the, and, of, to…) are excluded by default, and phrases that start or end with a filler word are dropped — so the table shows real keywords.

Sortable results table

Click any column header to sort by keyword, phrase length, count or density — ascending or descending — to explore the data your way.

Word count and reading time

Get total words, unique words and an estimated reading time (at 200 words per minute) alongside every analysis.

CSV export

Download the full keyword table — counts, densities and totals — as a CSV file for reports, client work or spreadsheets.

Frequently asked questions

What is keyword density?
Keyword density is how often a keyword appears in your text, expressed as a percentage of total words. If the word "sleep" appears 10 times in a 200-word article, its density is 5%. This tool computes it as (count ÷ total words) × 100 for 1, 2 and 3-word phrases.
What is a good keyword density for SEO?
Most SEO professionals aim for roughly 1–2% for their primary keyword. Anything over 3% can look like keyword stuffing to search engines, which is why this tool flags it. Density is only one signal, though — natural, helpful writing matters far more than hitting an exact number.
What counts as keyword stuffing?
Keyword stuffing is repeating the same keyword unnaturally often to manipulate rankings. Search engines can penalize pages for it. This tool flags any keyword above 3% density so you can rewrite those passages with synonyms and natural variation.
What are stop words, and why ignore them?
Stop words are ultra-common words like the, and, of, is and to that carry no SEO meaning. With filtering on, they are excluded from the 1-word table and any 2 or 3-word phrase that starts or ends with one is dropped, leaving a table of genuinely useful keywords.
How is reading time calculated?
Total word count divided by 200 words per minute (an average adult reading speed), rounded up to the next full minute.
Is my text private?
Completely. The analysis runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript — your article is never uploaded, stored or sent anywhere.
Can I check a live webpage URL?
Not with this tool — it analyzes text you paste in. Open the page, copy its main body text (without menus, ads or footers), paste it here and run the check.
