How to use the favicon generator

  1. 1Upload your logo

Drop a JPG, PNG, or WebP file (square works best; 256×256 or bigger for crisp results). The tool reads it straight from your device — nothing is sent anywhere.

  2. 2Check the live preview

See your icon at real 16×16 and 32×32 sizes in a mock browser tab. If details look muddy at 16px, try a simpler logo — that is the real-world test your favicon must pass.

  3. 3Download the files

Grab the multi-size favicon.ico (16/32/48 packed into one file) plus 180, 192, and 512 PNGs and the site.webmanifest — each as its own download button, no zip needed.

Why use this favicon generator?

True multi-size ICO file

Generates a real favicon.ico container with 16×16, 32×32, and 48×48 images packed in (PNG-in-ICO encoding, browser-native) — not a renamed PNG, so it works in every browser tab, bookmark, and old IE-era fallback.

All modern sizes included

Apple touch icon (180×180) for iOS home screens, 192×192 and 512×512 for Android PWAs and install prompts — the full set Chrome Lighthouse and iOS look for.

Pixel-accurate previews

Canvas-based resizing gives you true pixel output, and the mock tab shows exactly how your icon will look at real size before you ship it.

Copy-ready install code

Get a finished <head> snippet with apple-touch-icon, 32×32/16×16 links, and the manifest line — plus a valid site.webmanifest JSON with your site name baked in.

Smart center-crop

Non-square images are auto-cropped from the center to a square before resizing, so logos with wide banners still produce a balanced square icon.

Frequently asked questions

What is a favicon, and why do I need one?
A favicon is the tiny icon shown in browser tabs, bookmarks, history, and mobile home screens. Sites without one look unfinished and are harder to spot in a tab bar. The ICO file is what browsers have requested for over 20 years; the PNGs cover phones and app-install prompts.
Is the favicon.ico a real ICO file?
Yes. It is a proper ICO container (ICONDIR header + directory entries) holding PNG-encoded 16×16, 32×32, and 48×48 images. Every modern browser reads PNG-in-ICO natively, and it is the format favicon validators and Chrome expect.
What image should I upload?
A square logo at 256×256 or larger gives the best results. Bold, simple shapes survive the shrink to 16×16 — thin text and fine detail turn to mush, so check the live 16px preview and simplify if needed.
Do you store or upload my image?
No. The entire pipeline — decoding, center-cropping, canvas resizing, and ICO byte encoding — runs in your browser tab with JavaScript. No file ever leaves your device.
Where do I put the downloaded files?
Place favicon.ico, the PNGs, and site.webmanifest in your site root (or one folder and adjust the snippet paths), then paste the generated <head> snippet into your theme. WordPress users can drop the lines into a “custom header code” field or their child theme’s header.php.
Why 180×180, 192×192, and 512×512?
180×180 is the size iOS uses for home-screen (apple-touch-icon). 192×192 and 512×512 are the Android/PWA sizes referenced by site.webmanifest for install prompts and splash screens.
My image is not square — will it be stretched?
No. The tool center-crops your image to a square first, so nothing is distorted. For full control over the crop, use an image editor (or our Image Cropper) to make a square first.
