Add a video above to get started.
How it works, honestly: browsers cannot cut a track out of a container without re-encoding, so this tool plays your video in the background and records the video track only. That means processing runs in real time — a 2-minute video takes about 2 minutes, and you should keep this tab open. The result downloads as a .webm file, the format browsers can encode natively. Your original file is never changed.

How to remove audio from a video

  1. 1Upload your video

Drag and drop an MP4, WebM, MOV, or MKV file into the box above, or click it to browse. The preview plays with sound so you can confirm it is the right clip.

  2. 2Remove the audio

Press the button. The tool re-records only the video track, with a live progress bar showing elapsed and total time. Keep the tab open while it runs.

  3. 3Download the muted copy

Play the result to verify it is completely silent, then download the .webm file — ready for your own music, voiceover, or captioning.

Why mute videos with this tool

True track removal, not a mute flag

The output stream contains zero audio tracks, so the video plays silent everywhere — editors, phones, and social apps included.

Video track preserved

Resolution and frame rate are kept, and the video is re-encoded at a high 10 Mbps bitrate, so the picture stays sharp.

Live progress bar

Processing runs in real time, so you get an honest progress bar with elapsed and total time — no fake spinners.

Before and after preview

Watch the original with its sound and the result without it, one right after the other, before you download.

Nothing leaves your browser

Reading, re-recording, and the download all happen locally. No queues, no accounts, no tracking.

Made for creators

Muting clips is the first step for Reels and TikTok workflows — strip the original sound, then add trending audio or your own voiceover in your editor.

Remove Audio from Video FAQs

Does this delete the audio or just mute it?
It deletes it. The tool builds a new media stream containing only the video tracks and records that, so the downloaded file has no audio track at all — a player cannot even offer a volume slider for it.
Will the video quality drop?
Barely. The video is re-encoded to WebM (VP9 or VP8) at 10 Mbps, which is visually near-identical to the original for typical clips. Your original file is never modified, so you can always go back.
Why does it take as long as the video plays?
Browsers re-encode by playing the video and recording the video track in real time — there is no way to skip ahead. A 2-minute video takes about 2 minutes. Keep the tab in the foreground so the browser does not throttle playback.
Why does the download come as a .webm file?
WebM is the format browsers can encode natively; they cannot write MP4 files. The .webm plays in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and most editors. If you need MP4 afterward, run it through any converter or your editor’s export.
Which video formats can I upload?
Anything your browser can play: MP4 (H.264), WebM, MOV, and MKV in most desktop browsers. If the preview plays, the tool can process it.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read with a local object URL and re-recorded by your browser’s built-in MediaRecorder. We never see, store, or transmit your video.
Can I remove audio from only part of a video?
This tool mutes the whole clip. If you need to cut a section first, trim it with the Video Trimmer below, then remove the audio from the trimmed file.
